Winston ChurchillWinston Churchill, was the son of Randolph Churchill, a Conservative politician. He was born in Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, on 30th November, 1874. Winston was educated at Harrow. He entered the army as a cavalry officer. He took place in 3 different campaigns, between 1895 and 1898. Winston Churchill wrote to his mother, for his experience in this military campaigns: "I never felt the slightest nervousness,". He added: "[I] felt as cool as I do now.".Winston Churchill was also a writer. During his army experience supplied military reports for the Daily Telegraph and wrote books such as The Story of the Malakand Field Force (1898) and The River War (1899). He left the British Army in 1899. Then he worked as a war correspondent for the Morning Post. He was imprisoned during Preporting the Boer War in South Africa. He escaped and when he came back to England he wrote about his experiences in the book, London to Ladysmith (1900).Winston Churchill was always attracted by politics. He entered the arliament in 1901. In 1904, he left the Conservatives and decided to join the Liberal Party. In the 1906 General Election Winston Churchill won North West Manchester and became a member of the new Liberal government as Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies. He became Home Secretary in 1910 and First Lord of the Admiralty in 1911. Thus, Winston Churchill was the political head of the Royal Navy at the outbreak of the First World War In 1914. He joined the War Council, but he was blamed for the failure of the Dardanelles Campaign. So, after his failure he was moved to the post of Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster. Fortunately, when David Lloyd George replaced Herbert Asquith as Prime Minister, he brought Winston Churchill back into the government as Minister of Munitions. For the final year of the war, Winston was in charge of the production of tanks, aeroplanes, guns and shells. But it is true that Winston Churchill failed to re-establish the reputation as a future national statesman he had won before the war.
